Events & Community Engagement Coordinator

SOAR Special Needs | Lenexa, Kansas

Full-Time | $36,000–$50,000

Help create experiences where individuals with disabilities and their families can belong, connect, and SOAR.

SOAR Special Needs is seeking a full-time Events & Community Engagement Coordinator to lead the planning and delivery of SOAR Camp and our major community events while developing volunteers, partnerships, and resources that help our mission grow.

SOAR exists to transform the lives of special families and empower them to soar in their local and faith communities. This position offers the opportunity to combine event leadership, relationship building, volunteer development, and community engagement with work that makes a direct difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.

SOAR hosts one of the nation's largest disability day camps, and this position coordinates all aspects of Camp while also leading major events, including the SOAR With Someone Special Prom, SOAR Fashion Show, Sensory Trunk or Treat, Sensory EGG'Stravaganza, Sensory Santa, and other events.

What You'll Do

The Events & Community Engagement Coordinator will bring together people, plans, volunteers, partners, and resources to move SOAR's major events from vision to successful completion.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of SOAR Camp and SOAR's major events
• Develop event plans, timelines, schedules, teams, and systems
• Recruit, train, equip, and develop volunteers and volunteer leaders
• Coordinate facilities, vendors, food, supplies, activities, equipment, and other event logistics
• Recruit, onboard, supervise, and develop SOAR Camp interns
• Work alongside SOAR's medical and behavioral teams to ensure participants receive the support they need
• Build relationships with churches, schools, businesses, sponsors, donors, foundations, and community organizations
• Help develop sponsorships, fundraising opportunities, grants, and in-kind support for Camp and major events
• Represent SOAR at community events, resource fairs, networking opportunities, and donor meetings
• Collaborate with SOAR's marketing resources to promote events and share their impact
• Develop and manage event budgets and steward SOAR's resources responsibly

The position intentionally includes community engagement and relationship building; SOAR expects the Coordinator to cultivate financial and community partnerships supporting Camp and major events.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is organized, relational, creative, dependable, proactive, and comfortable leading people.

The right person doesn't necessarily need to come from a traditional event-planning career. Relevant experience could come from nonprofit organizations, camps, schools, churches, children's or family ministry, volunteer leadership, community engagement, fundraising events, or program coordination.

A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, but equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a full-time position based in Lenexa, Kansas, generally Monday through Friday. The typical week includes approximately 24 office-based hours and 16 community-based hours, with adjustments based on events and organizational needs.

Some evening and weekend work is required for SOAR programs and events.

Salary: $36,000–$50,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
